Outdoor & Landscape in the UAE

Outdoor lighting in the UAE is a materials problem before it is a design problem. Salt-laden coastal air, 50°C summer surface temperatures, fine dust that finds every seal and irrigation water hitting fittings daily will destroy an under-specified luminaire in a single season. The fitting that looked identical in the catalogue and cost 40% less is the one that fails first.

Ziera supplies outdoor and landscape lighting selected for those conditions: properly rated ingress protection, marine-grade or powder-coated corrosion-resistant housings, and sealed gaskets rather than press-fit covers. The range covers the full garden vocabulary — bollards for paths, adjustable spike spots for planting, recessed step and wall lights for level changes, in-ground uplighters for palms and facades, and linear washers for boundary walls — all in matched finishes and colour temperature so a garden reads as one scheme.

What to get right

Rate for water pressure, not just rain

IP65 handles rain and hose spray and suits most wall and bollard positions. Anything set into the ground, into a planter that gets flooded by irrigation, or anywhere near a pool needs IP67 as a minimum, and genuine submersion needs IP68. In-ground uplighters are where under-specification shows up fastest, because they sit in standing water after every irrigation cycle.

Specify the housing for salt and dust

Within reach of the coast, marine-grade stainless or properly powder-coated aluminium is the difference between a fitting that lasts years and one that corrodes visibly in months. Cheap plated finishes pit and streak, and the staining runs onto whatever stone or render sits below the fitting.

Aim uplights so nobody stands in the beam

An in-ground uplighter at the edge of a path is a glare source at eye level for anyone walking toward it. Set uplighters into planting rather than paving where possible, angle them away from routes of approach, and use a cowl or honeycomb louvre where the beam would otherwise be seen directly.

Keep the outdoor scheme warm and restrained

2700-3000K flatters planting, stone and timber; 4000K and above makes a garden look like a car park. Light fewer things more deliberately — a specimen tree, a wall texture, the steps — and leave the rest dark. Contrast is what makes a garden read at night, and a uniformly lit garden has none.

Questions

Outdoor & Landscape FAQs

What IP rating do outdoor lights need in the UAE?
IP65 is the practical minimum for anything exposed, covering rain and direct hose spray. Use IP67 for in-ground uplighters, planter lights and anything near a pool where fittings sit in standing water after irrigation, and IP68 for genuine submersion such as pool and water-feature lighting.
Will outdoor lighting survive UAE summer heat?
Only if it is specified for it. LEDs lose output and life when run hot, so fittings need adequate heatsinking and a driver rated for high ambient temperatures. A luminaire specified for a European garden will run considerably hotter here and age much faster, which is the most common cause of premature outdoor failures in the region.
What colour temperature is best for garden lighting?
2700K to 3000K. Warm light flatters greenery, natural stone and timber, and matches the warm interior light spilling from the house. Cooler temperatures render planting greyish and give a garden an institutional, over-lit character.
Do you supply landscape lighting for villa and hotel projects?
Yes. Ziera quotes complete landscape packages — bollards, spikes, step and in-ground fittings in matched finishes with the drivers and control gear — for UAE villa, compound and hospitality projects, supplied from the Sharjah base across all emirates.
