A chandelier is the one fitting in a room that people actually look at. Everything else in a lighting scheme works by effect — you notice the lit wall, not the fitting — but a pendant over a dining table or a chandelier in a double-height majlis is furniture. It is chosen the way a sofa is chosen, on proportion, material and presence, and it has to be right at both the scale of the room and the scale of the hand.

What to get right
Size to the void, not to the table
The usual rule — pendant width roughly half to two-thirds of the table width — only holds in a room of ordinary height. In the double-height voids common in UAE villas, a piece scaled to the table disappears. Scale to the volume of air it hangs in, then check the bottom of the fixture sits around 750-900mm above the table surface.
Decide the fixing before the design
A large chandelier is a structural load, not an electrical one. The slab fixing, the drop rod length and the route for the driver all have to be resolved with the contractor before the piece is manufactured — retrofitting a fixing into a finished double-height ceiling is expensive and sometimes impossible.
Plan how it will be cleaned
Dust is the defining maintenance fact of UAE interiors. A chandelier in a stairwell void that cannot be reached without scaffolding will be dirty within a year and stay that way. Either keep it within reach of a tower, or specify a winch or lowering mechanism at design stage.
Separate decorative light from working light
A chandelier almost never lights a room adequately on its own, and turning it up until it does makes it glaring and unflattering. Let it provide presence and warmth at low output on its own dimmed circuit, and let downlights, cove and lamps do the actual work.

Lead times depend on scale and finish and are confirmed with the quotation.
- How high should a pendant hang over a dining table?
- Roughly 750-900mm from the underside of the fitting to the table surface. That keeps the light on the table and the fitting out of the eyeline of anyone seated. Over an island or breakfast bar where people stand and move around, hang slightly higher — around 900-1000mm.
- Can you supply matched chandeliers for a hotel or restaurant project?

Because these voids vary so much, this is the situation where a made-to-height custom piece is usually better value than forcing a stock size to fit.
